Within the Church
We offer many opportunities to serve within the church and are always in need of volunteers. Please scroll through the list below to view these opportunities. If you would like to volunteer, or would like more information, please contact the church office.
Do you enjoy a friendly visit over a cup of tea or coffee? Would you like to help increase our contact with and care for members who have a hard time getting to church regularly? Join our new Tea Ministry! Our Tea Ministry coordinator will call those on our list who would like to receive a visit. The coordinator will assign two visitors to each person. Once a month, on a day and time to be decided by the group, you will, as a “tea visitor,” meet at the church to pick up a tea basket of supplies. You’ll spend 45 minutes to an hour having a friendly conversation over a cup of tea. These visits mean so much to those who receive them and provide a tangible expression of our church’s care for them. If you’re interested, please contact the church office at email@example.com or call 630-879-7060.
Most of us have experienced the joy and comfort of going to the mailbox and receiving a card with words of encouragement from someone just when we needed it most. BUMC is putting together a card ministry that will match those who could benefit from receiving a monthly card of encouragement with those who would send them. What’s involved? You would receive the name of a recipient and agree to write and send a monthly card of encouragement to them for a specified period of time. If you’re interested, please contact the church office at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 630-879-7060.
Do you enjoy meeting new people? Do you want to help visitors and newcomers to BUMC feel welcome and connect to other people? Join our new Welcome and Hospitality Team. You will move around the building on Sunday mornings, both before and after worship, to watch for visitors and newcomers, helping them find their way through the building to the nursery, education classes and worship. You’ll be able to introduce them to BUMC members, answering questions and generally helping them feel appreciated and comfortable. Our goal is to build a team that is large enough that team members would serve one Sunday per month. Please contact Pastor Cynthia at email@example.com
Worship Life Ministry
There are a number of opportunities to serve on Sunday mornings. These include ushers, greeters, acolytes, lectors, and hospitality.
Sunday Mornings & throughout the week
Our Children’s Ministry would not be possible without volunteers! About 50 volunteers are needed each month to provide the high quality environments for our children. A teaching degree is not necessary to serve in our children’s ministry. All you need is a passion for serving Christ’s children. The Holy Spirit has given each of us gifts to serve and we will help you find those gifts. It’s important that you are serving where your passions and your gifts lead you!
We have opportunities to serve directly with children, teaching, assisting in classrooms and providing child care. We also have opportunities to serve administratively. We love volunteers who will help make sure teachers have the supplies they need, make copies of materials, keep our children’s areas clean and tidy and safe!
Because we care about the safety of our children and our volunteers, all potential volunteers are required to complete Safe Sanctuary training and undergo a background check.
Sundays & throughout the week
There are opportunities to serve as Sunday School teachers, small group leaders, chaperones for outings and mission trips. To serve in this ministry, you must complete Safe Sanctuary training and undergo a background check. For more information, please contact Pastor Joshua Bailey-Green

Once a Month at 9 a.m.
Our church kitchen is used a lot in the course of a week or month. The Kitchen Angels meet at 9am once a month to keep the kitchen clean. Please consider joining this group -more hands make the workload lighter. Please contact Gail Hinterlong at (630) 406-1636 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are looking for several volunteers to be part of this team. Being a counter involves an hour of your time counting the offering. We are in need of a counter on the fourth Sunday every month. Contact the church office for more information.
Funeral Luncheon Committee
The funeral luncheon committee is always looking for more dessert and salad preparers for funeral lunches. It involves making 2-3 dozen bars or cookies or a salad that will serve 12, and deliver your food to the church. It is such a blessing to those who are grieving to have a nice luncheon after the funeral. It is a fun group, and you won’t want to miss being a part of it! To be included, please contact Gail Hinterlong at (630) 406-1636 or email@example.com. Thank you for considering becoming a part of this wonderful ministry.
